Reaction-Diffusion (Gray-Scott Model)

The background animation currently running on this site is a Reaction-Diffusion simulation using the Gray-Scott model.

This mathematical model describes how two virtual chemicals diffuse and react with one another to form the complex, organic "Turing patterns" seen in nature—such as animal stripes, coral reefs, and fingerprints.

This implementation builds upon the foundational mathematical biology proposed by Alan Turing in his 1952 paper The Chemical Basis of Morphogenesis, and the computational explorations of the Gray-Scott model popularized by Karl Sims.
